How long will it take me to get back to my daily activities?

You may experience pain, tenderness, or swelling of the penis and scrotum in the first few days and for several weeks after surgery. This is common and is usually managed with pain relief and cold packs. In the first 2–3 days, a small amount of discharge from the wound can occur and often settles without treatment.

For about 4–6 weeks after surgery, your doctor will usually advise you to:

  • Avoid lifting anything heavier than about 5 kilograms
  • Avoid heavy exercise and cycling
  • Avoid thermal baths and saunas
  • Discuss all prescribed medicines with your doctor

Your doctor will schedule a visit to inflate the implant for the first time, usually when swelling and soreness have improved (often around 4–6 weeks after surgery). After this appointment, your doctor will advise when it is appropriate to resume sexual activity.

You should notify your urologist if:

  • The swelling is severe or not improving
  • There is a discharge of a large amount of fluid each day
  • Pain is worsening or not improving
  • There is increased redness or tenderness around the incision
  • You have a fever
