Psychological risk factors for erectile dysfunction

Psychological risk factors for erectile dysfunction
Several psychological conditions have been associated with ED. These include:
- Anxiety
- Depression
- Feelings of self-inadequacy
- Low self-esteem
- Inability to describe emotions
- Stress
Social expectations about masculinity, femininity, and sexual performance can also influence ED. Unrealistic ideas about love and sexuality, or rigid expectations about gender roles, may make it harder for some people to cope with ED. ED can sometimes contribute to unsatisfying or strained relationships, and in other cases, relationship difficulties can contribute to ED. It is not always easy to determine which came first. If psychological or relationship factors are playing a role, support from a psychologist, counsellor, or sex therapist can be helpful.
